Major music publishers, as opposed to independent publishers, tend to be affiliated with the major recorded music businesses. Examples of major music publishers include Warner/Chappell, EMI, Universal, and Sony/ATV. BMG Rights Management, a venture between the buy-out firm KKR and Bertelsmann, has acquired many independent publishers and though not affiliated with a major record company, is now considered to be a "Major Publisher".
