The Chilean Society of Musical Authors and Performers (SCD) mission is to efficiently manage the musical repertoire entrusted to them by their partners and affiliates, national interpreters and authors, as well as foreign authors and other holders of copyright and related rights, by controlling the use of that repertoire, its licensing, and the corresponding collection and distribution of rights. In addition to this, SCDŐs strives to promote activities or services of an assistance nature for the benefit of our members and represented, stimulate the creation of national music, and in general, represent and defend the moral and patrimonial interests of authors, composers, artists, performers and performers.
Music Publishing is the business of protecting and promoting song copyrights and collecting the royalties that these copyrights generate. Think of a song as intellectual property (it's an original piece of art!), and music publishing as the business that makes sure that songwriters get paid a fair compensation when their intellectual property is used by companies. Those companies could be record labels (mechanical royalties), radio stations, bars, and restaurants (performance royalties), or film studios and advertising agencies (sync license fees), and many more.
